Introduction
This is the Corporate Presentation of Karsten S.A., a Home Textile Company located in the South of Brazil.
In 1860, Johann Friedrich Christian Karsten, Maria Saps Karsten and their six children left Germany to come to Brazil. Invited by the Imperial Family, they managed a coffee plantation in Petrópolis (RJ), for a short period of time, since their focus had been the city of Blumenau from the beginning.
In Testo Salto, 20 km from the center of Blumenau, the firstborn, Johann Karsten, inherited from his father the land received from Dr. Blumenau. At first, he was interested in farming and basic cattle upbringing and installed a corn meal mill operated by a water wheel. Then, he added a sawmill to his business. The first great flood, in 1880, swept away the buildings, sawmill and acquired patrimony. Within 3 months, with the help of friends and people from the region, he recovered everything.
Later on, Johann Karsten performed something innovating to financially maintain his family and other colonizers: a textile industry.
