The weaving company ROEDER, KARSTEN & HADLICH was founded, with looms acquired from Germany and a small spinning frame. In 1885 and 1886, Roeder and Hadlich, respectively retired from the company. Johann Karsten continued with the business.
The next decision was to import yarn dyed from London. Weaving plain fabric for apparel was the first focus of Karsten.
